Here are the many definitions and terms contained in hosting that you need to know so that you don't get confused when you want to buy hosting for your website:

What is a Web Server?

Commonly used in reference to computer hardware that provides wide-ranging networking services on the Internet, Web servers include hardware, operating systems, server software, TCP / IP protocols and website content. The web server processes requests from the browser for web pages and serves them via HTTP.

What is HTTP?

HyperText Transfer Protocol - the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web. HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and Web servers and browsers take action in response to various commands. For example, when you enter a URL in your browser, it sends an HTTP command and directs it to the Web server to retrieve and deliver the requested Web page.

What is a Domain Name?

An addressing construct is used to identify and locate computers on the Internet. Domain names provide an easy system of remembering Internet addresses, which can be translated by the Domain Name System (DNS) into the numeric addresses (Internet Protocol (IP) numbers) used by the network. (centerklik.com is a domain name like Google.com)

What is meant by IP Address?

Every computer connected to the Internet must have a unique address which is known as an IP (Internet Protocol) address. An IP address is a numeric address written as a set of four numbers separated by dots, for example 64.149.219.213. An address provides a unique identification of a computer and network.

What is a URL?

Uniform Resource Locator - the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. The first part of the address indicates the protocol used, and the second part shows the IP address or domain name where the resource is located. https://www.centerklik.com/ is the URL for the centerklik website.

What is DNS?

Domain Name System - a system of names mapping to IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetical, they are easier for humans to remember. The Internet, however, is completely based on IP addresses. Whenever you use a domain name, DNS translates the name to the appropriate IP address. It is similar to a phone book for the Internet.

What is FTP?

File Transfer Protocol - Allows the transfer of one or more files from one computer to another on the Internet. Usually from personal computers to servers or vice versa. FTP is fully covered here

What is Upload?

Uploading is transferring files from your local computer to a remote computer, usually a server.

What is Download?

Downloading is transferring files from a remote computer or server to your local computer.

What is E-Mail?

As most people already know E-mail stands for Electronic Mail and is now an integral part of business and personal communication.

What are POP and SMTP servers?

The Post Office Protocol is the most commonly used protocol for retrieving e-mail from a mail server. E-mail applications (sometimes called e-mail clients) use the POP protocol, although some can use the new IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). The newest version, POP3, can be used with or without SMTP (e-mail sending protocol, short for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). IMAP servers are similar to POP servers, the only difference is that they store e-mails so they can be retrieved from multiple locations or multiple users.

What is WebMail?

WebMail - Provides users an interface on the Internet so they can access their e-mail messages from any computer.

What is meant by CGI Services?

CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. CGI provides a method to interface computer programs with HTML pages. CGI programs can be written to do many different things, including: counting visitors to your website; processing data obtained from online forms; and create simple animations. If you want any of these features it is important that your host provides CGI services usually in CGI-bin form.

What is Bandwidth?

Bandwidth in terms of hosting, is the amount of information that can be transferred from the server to the browser. Hosts usually limit the amount of bandwidth a user has available per month. For example, if you have a file on your site that is 1Mb in size and you have 1Gb of bandwidth, then the user can download the file 1000 times.

What is Disk Space?

Disk Space - the total amount of physical space on the host hard drive or SSD available to users. This is the amount of space you can use to put your entire website files.

What is a Dedicated Server?

Dedicated Server is one that only has one website running on it. Rather than a shared or shared server that has several Web sites served.
